ADMIRALTY SHIPYARDS HAS RAISED THE NAVAL FLAG ONBOARD DIESEL-ELECTRIC SUBMARINE “MOZHAYSK”

28.11.2023

The Admiralty Shipyards raised the Russian Navy flag onboard large diesel-electric submarine “Mozhaisk” of project 636.

The ceremony symbolizing the acceptance of the ship into the Russian Navy was held under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov. He noted that ships of this project serve in the Black Sea and Pacific fleets and are considered to be one of the most effective conventional submarines in the world.

– The submarines of this project have repeatedly proven their effectiveness. They have excellent characteristics - high stealth, maneuverability, and also carry high-precision weapons on board,” Nikolai Evmenov emphasized. – Many thanks to the shipbuilders, to all those who put their hands into creation of the miracle.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Viktor Evtukhov sent his congratulations to the naval sailors and shipbuilders: “The raising of the Naval flag is always a very solemn, deeply symbolic ceremony. Because was born a new combat unit, which from now on, as part of the Navy, will protect the interests of Russia. Our Admiralty Shipyards are the undisputed leader in construction of submarines of this class. The new submarine on which they will serve not only performs its duties perfectly from the point of view of military efficiency. This project implements a number of innovative solutions, including the latest life support systems. The ship is called upon to fulfill two main tasks: to ensure the defense capability of our country and to preserve the lives of the crew.”

“This is already the fifth submarine in the series that is being built at the Admiralty Shipyards for the Russian Pacific Fleet,” noted Andrey Veselov, General Director of JSC "Admiralty Shipyards". – Recent sea and state tests of submarine “Mozhaisk” have convincingly confirmed its high seaworthiness and combat qualities. And I am sure that in the near future she will continue to serve with honor as part of the Pacific Fleet, where the previous submarines of the series, built at the Admiralty Shipyards, are already based.

“Mozhaisk” is the fifth submarine of the series for the Pacific Fleet, launched on April 27th this year. JSC "Admiralty Shipyards" continues construction of “Yakutsk” - the sixth submarine in the series. The submarines "Mozhaisk" and "Yakutsk" were laid down in pair in August 2021.

Currently, four submarines of the series, “Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky”, “Volkhov”, “Magadan” and “Ufa”, are successfully serving the combat duty, performing all the tasks assigned to them.

The submarines of modified project 636 have higher (compared to previous projects) combat effectiveness. The optimal combination of acoustic stealth and target detection range, the latest inertial navigation system, a modern automated information and control system, and powerful high-speed torpedo and missile weapons ensure the world priority of ships of this class in the field of construction of conventional submarines. Admiralty Shipyards are the undisputed leader in construction of the submarines of this class, the shipyard also ensures their warranty and after-sales service.
