RESEARCH VESSEL ICE-RESISTANT SELF-PROPELLED PLATFORM OF PROJECT 00903 "NORTH POLE"

Designer – JSC DO "Vympel".

Research vessel ice-resistant self-propelled platform "North Pole" has the functionality of a research and development center, designed to carry out year-round scientific expeditions in the high latitudes of the Arctic ocean.

The platform provides the research staff with comfortable and safe working and living conditions during a long drift in the polar latitudes, considering all applicable standards for environmental protection and safety.

The research expedition, consisting of 34 persons, will carry out meteorological, actinometric (at meteorological sites and onboard) and aerological observations (onboard); research of ice cover and its dynamics (at ice ranges), ice loads, mechanics of deformations and destruction of the ice being exposed to an industrial facility in order to improve the calculation methods for local and global ice loads on ships and other engineering structures; carry out complex works on background environmental monitoring of the marine environment components; oceanographic researches; field studies for improvement of the methods of hydrometeorological support of the economic activity in the Arctic region. In addition to scientific laboratories, residential and service premises, the vessel provides with a sauna, a swimming pool and a gym. The station is designed to operate at temperatures up to -50°C.
