JSC «ADMIRALTY SHIPYARDS» SIGNED A CONTRACT FOR DESIGNING AND CONSTRUCTION OF ICE RESISTANT SELF-PROPELLED PLATFORM «NORTH POLE»

20.04.2018

SAINT–PETERSBURG, 19.04.2018

JSC «Admiralty Shipyards» signed a contract with Federal Service of Russia on Hydrometeorology and Monitoring of the Environment for designing and construction of ice resistant self-propelled platform «North Pole» of project 00903.

On behalf of the customer the document was signed by the head of Roshydromet Maxim Yakovenko, while on behalf of JSC «Admiralty Shipyards»- by the general director Alexander Buzakov.

- The current event marks the beginning of a completely new stage of the struggle for scientific knowledge in Arctic region in the conditions of ice melt. And we are very proud that Russia happened to be the first here, - underlined the head of Roshydromet Maxim Yakovenko. – We are happy to have such excellent partner in the name of Admiralty Shipyards, without this enterprise the project could not eхist at all. Five years ago the personnel of JSC «Admiralty Shipyards» built the best flagship of our scientific - expedition fleet – «Akademik Treyoshnikov». The traditions have been set up and I am confident that they will be dynamically developed.

- Signing of the contract for construction of the ice resistant platform is a high-profile event for Admiralty Shipyards, - stated Alexander Buzakov. – We are involved with the project for two years already and at present we have a good sense of the technical plan of the vessel. The shipyards are pleased to follow the traditions of construction of ice class vessels, beginning on nuclear ice-breaker «Lenin» and we are ready to build more advanced vessels both civil and military designations.

The ice resistant self-propelled platform (IRSPP) «North Pole» is designed for twelve-month complex scientific research practice in high latitudes of the Arctic Ocean. The specialized vessel with high hull strength Arc8, fuel endurance about 2 years, the service life not less than 25 years, the complement is up to 14 persons and the scientific stuff is up to 48 persons is unrivalled throughout the world.

All-season research platform with integrated equipment will be able to make geological, acoustic, geophysical and oceanographic investigations, to move on the ice without any ice-breaker and to land on its helicopter pad the heavy helicopters of type МI-8 АМТ (Мi-17).

In compliance with the contractual terms the platform will be handed over to the Customer in 2020.

JSC «Admiralty Shipyards» has a great experience in construction of ice class vessels. Since beginning of 2000 the enterprise built the series of five ice class tankers with deadweight 20000 tons, arctic tankers «Michail Ulyanov» and «Kirill Lavrov» with deadweights 70000 tons, research vessel «Akademik Treyosnikov». In November of 2017 ice breaker «Ilya Muromets» was delivered to the composition of the Russian Navy.

The design data of the ice resistant self-propelled platform (IRSPP): length – 67,8 m; breadth moulded – 22,5 m; displacement – about 7500 tons; capacity of propulsion equipment not more than 3600 kW; speed not less than 10 knots.
